Adding Functional Elements to Online Content : Controlling Generated Output Filenames

Controlling Generated Output Filenames

By default, WebWorks ePublisher Pro automatically assigns filenames to your generated output files. The output filenames are assigned by using a default naming rule comprised of the following: source document name, a serial number representing the position of the source document in its containing group (1 for the first document, 2 for the second document, and so forth), and a serial number representing the position of the output page in the set of pages generated from the source document. For example, if you have a source document named MyFile that contains four instances of a paragraph style that has a page break priority set in the Style Designer, the following output filenames will be generated: MyFile.1.1.html, MyFile.1.2.html, MyFile.1.3.html, and MyFile.1.4.html.

Output graphic filenames are assigned to generated graphics by using a default naming rule comprised of the following: source document name, a serial number representing the position of the source document in its containing group (1 for the first document, 2 for the second document, and so forth), a serial number representing the position of the output page in which the graphic appears in the set of pages generated from the source document, and a serial number representing the position of the graphic on the output page (1 for the first graphic on a page, 2 for the second, and so forth). For example, if you have a source document named MyFile that contains four graphic file and all of the graphic files are located in the first generated output file, the following output graphic filenames will be generated: MyFile.1.1.1.jpg, MyFile.1.1.2.jpg, MyFile.1.1.3.jpg, and MyFile.1.1.4.jpg. WebWorks ePublisher Pro does not assign filenames to graphics that are imported by reference, instead the original filename is preserved.

In addition to WebWorks ePublisher Pro automatically assigning output filenames, you can also control output filenames for both pages and graphics by inserting Filename markers into your source documents.
